The new warlords system, which allows players to command a network of unique AI warlords across the battlefield, also benefits from co-op mode. For the first time ever Stronghold: Warlords allows you to recruit, upgrade and command AI lords across the battlefield in the form of in-game Warlords. Just wanted to let you guys know that today Firefly have released a statement on the release of Stronghold Warlords. In addition to being able to party up and build separate castles in team deathmatch, Stronghold: Warlords will also allow players to share control over a large shared army, peasant population, castle defences and network of warlords under their command. You still have a couple of months to wait, but you’ll be fighting off castle sieges in no time with this one.Allowing players to share control of a single castle when playing together online, Warlords’ co-op mode is different from regular team-based multiplayer.

The game is set to feature 31 campaign missions, as well as a full multiplayer mode which I mentioned in the preceding paragraph. First revealed at E3 2019, Stronghold: Warlords promises to put players right in the midst of ancient China. You want to act like a Shogun? Well, sho’ nuff. If you’re not already familiar with Stronghold, Warlords is the series’ first entry in over six years, following Stronghold Crusader II. The game is set to differentiate itself by allowing you to focus on, you guessed it, warlords, including ones in Mongolia and Japan. Stronghold: Warlords is a refreshing new look for the long-running siege warfare series, rekindling much of what made the series great in the early 2000s.

The dev did consider having the game launch sans multiplayer, but decided that it was too important a feature to push in with an update.

Although it was hoping to launch the game in just a couple of weeks, unforeseen problems crept up (as they are wont to do), and the team realized that more time was needed to polish the mode. Firefly Studios has announced that Stronghold: Warlords will be released on September 29th on PC via Steam. In an announcement on the developer’s Twitter, Firefly Studios reports that the game’s multiplayer is simply not ready, which is awfully forthright.
